Vice President of Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Babs Ogunade, has disclosed that the body has not only achieved in the last seven years but brought joy to the millions of basketball lovers in the country.
Ogunade while speaking on the achievements of the body in the last seven years with journalists noted that the NBBF has worked tirelessly to achieve its set objectives and commended the NBBF board members for the job well done.
“Our achievements in the last seven years was massive. We did well on African soil and the world stage. Our women went to the 2018 FiBA World Cup and reached the quarter final stage.
“We have won Afro Basketball back to back and both our female and male national teams did well in Afro Basketball. This is to tell you that our baskeball national teams are forced to be reckoned with as far as Basketball is concerned in Africa,”he said.
Former Chairman of Lagos State Basketball Association also boasted that Nigeria is the only African country that qualified for Olympic Games in Japan both male and female category.
He also mentioned that for the first time, Nigerian male national team defeated USA basketball team on their home soil in the past in preparation for the Olympics.
“Let me say this to our readers, we are the only Africa country that qualified to represent Africa at the Olympics that was held in Japan in the male and female category.
“Our male team defeated USA in their home soil in preparation for Olympics.The defeat was a shock to them and the NBBF board members were happy that we are the first African country that beat No 1 Basketball playing nation in the world,”he said.
Ogunade, however, said the achievements of NBFF could not be highlighted without mentioning the progress of Nigeria Basketball Premier League.
He added that the league has recorded huge improvements in the last few years noted that the playoffs and final four is currently going on in Port Harcourt,Rivers State.
