*Plans For 70th Anniversary Bubbles
BY JOSEPH ODOEKWU
The Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC) has rolled out plans to celebrate a befitting 70th anniversary when the foremost Nigeria’s Football Supporters Club clocks 70 in May 2025.
This was disclosed to newsmen by the National Chairman of the club, Rev. (Amb) Samuel Ikpea in Lagos during the weekend, after the club had her National Executive Council Meeting (NEC) which took place at the National Secretariat of the club in Surulere, Lagos.
Ikpea started by saying that since the inception of the club, no Award/Gala Night has been organized but this time, plans will be put in place to ensure that the club organize her first ever Award/Gala Night and recognize all those who have contributed immensely towards the development of NFSC and football in the country when the 70th anniversary is going to be celebrated.
The award/night will further see the unveiling of the club’s new regalia which will be a symbol of the club’s insignia as the club clocks 70.
Furthermore, Ikpea hinted that there is going to be a football tournament and modalities will be designed for that while plans will be put in place to have the Ghana Football Supporters Club play a friendly with NFSC to mark the event.
Despite the poor performance of the Super Eagles in the ongoing 2026 World Cup qualifier, the NFSC boss still expressed optimism that Nigeria will scale through and charged all who love the team not to panic as this will create more tension for Nigeria as the qualifiers continue.
He appealed to all stakeholders to continue praying for the Super Eagles and added that the qualification is so important to NFSC and that’s why it became an agenda for discussion during their NEC meeting.
On the issue of the club having a befitting constitution that will be commensurate with her 70th anniversary, Ikpea regretted that previous elections that have been conducted was with the use of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) but this will not be same as NEC had set up a committee during her meeting to ensure that they perfect all existing documents and come out with one formidable constitution before the election.
The NFSC boss hinted further that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is making effort to ensure oneness amongst the different supporters club in the country as the idea of ensuring they all stay together in one stand during Super Eagles matches and play same song shows that, unlike before when the various supporters club are scattered in different locations inside the stadium and playing different songs.
Ikpea however called on corporate organizations, individuals to assist the NFSC and see them as a platform where they can advertise their products and services as this will give them an opportunity for their brand to be seen by football fans both inside the stadium and on the streets.
