On this historic day marking Nigeria’s 65th year of independence, the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Adeboye, joins the nation in celebration and issues a stirring message of hope, unity, and renewed energy for the future of sports in Nigeria.
As Nigeria commemorates 65 years of sovereignty, Adeboye paid tribute to the sacrifices of past generations who fought for freedom, urging citizens to reclaim the patriotic spirit that once bonded the nation together.
“Today, we reflect on our journey; the struggles, the triumphs, and the dreams yet to be fulfilled. At 65, Nigeria is still young in spirit. We owe it to those who built this country to rise above division and realize our boundless potential.”
Turning his gaze toward sports, the SSA affirmed that this anniversary must not just be about history, but action.
“Sports has always been one of Nigeria’s greatest unifiers. From grassroots leagues to global tournaments, it is time we invest with purpose, while nurturing talent from every community, giving youth hope, and proving that our future will be defined by what we build, not what we lament.”
Adeboye stressed that Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary is a symbolic threshold. A new chapter for sports development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We will reinforce infrastructure, strengthen training pathways, partner with private sector and states, and ensure that every child with a dream has access to fields, courts, and equipment. Let us make this decade the golden decade of Nigerian sports.”
He also called on corporate institutions, philanthropists, and state governments to rise and play their part:
“The government has set the foundation. Now we need your investment, your creativity, your resources. Together, we can turn sports into a national engine of pride, unity, and opportunity.”
Adeboye added, “At 65, we must not only salute our independence, we must define our independence. Let this year be the moment Nigeria begins to run again, to compete again, and to win again. And in sports, we shall lead the way.”
