Amos Fasanya Gold Cup Begins With 24 Teams In Ogun

A total of 24 teams from Lagos and Ogun States are taking part in the ongoing Fasanya Gold Cup which is being sponsored by Chief Amos Fasanya.

The tournament which kicked off two weeks ago is currently taking place at the Joju football pitch, Sango-Otta, Ogun State.

Two teams in each group would qualify for the second round at the end of the group stage.

In the matches played so far, defending champions,Agada United humbled New stars 3-1, Sportykanaan defeated Easyclick 2-1,Onipetesi boys lost 2-4 to D’Elite FC,while Godswill played 1-1 with Sunshine.

In other results,Onitigbo boys played 1-1 with Sporting Talents, Capstone FC also played 2-2 with Achievers,Heyfash lost 1-4 to Community FC, Breakthrough and Favourite ended 2-2 as Acme Dynamite pip Welle All Stars 1-0 while Fidson Boys played 2-2 with Gold FC.

Action resumes Sunday afternoon when Glory FC tackle United FC by 1pm as Gunners face Sango Rangers by 3pm

Match coordinator, Akinlawon Akinola explained that he was impressed with the standard of play by the teams and urged them to continue to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the competition.

“It was a good start for us despite our little challenges at the beginning.Teams are following the rules and talents are discovering.I expect this year’s edition to be highly competitive and glamorous because many registered teams have football pedigree,”he said.

Meanwhile matches will continue on Wednesday as organisers promised better officiating and organisation throughout the first round.
