The Super Eagles B will take on City FC on Sunday as the players prepare for the big games against the Black Galaxies of Ghana in the 2023 African Nations Championship qualification series. The match billed for the training pitch of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja will be the third in the series for the team managed by Coach Salisu Yusuf.
With its sight set on Algeria 2023, the team played two test games on Wednesday. The first was at 9am against Mahanian FC which they won 3-2 after series of skilful displays by both sides to the delight of the sizeable crowd that watched the game. Mahanian were semi-finalists in the FCT competition of the ongoing AITEO Cup. On the same date, the Eagles B engaged AS Roma at 4.30pm and won 1-0. The very youthful opposition gave a very good account of themselves in the game.
Salisu Yusuf’s wards are expected to play a top team in the Nigerian league before the players fly out to Cape Coast, Ghana for the first leg of the qualifying matches.
The Welfare Manager of the team Bashir Badawiy confirmed this much. “We could not get that game going this weekend for reasons beyond us but definitely a bigger team from the league will engage the team for the final test before the departure to Ghana.”
Nigeria failed to qualify for the last edition of the African Nations Championship held in Cameroon but Eagles B were runners-up to hosts Morocco in 2018.
