Wasbak International FC and Pentagon Queens have emerged winners in the 7th U-15 Boys and Girls Bola Akindele Cup 2024 after the final matches which were decided at the Femi Gbajabiamila Mini Stadium, Abati Barrack, Surulere, Lagos yesterday.
In the Boys final, Wasbak International defeated Bamise God FC 6-5 on penalties after 1-1 at the regulation time to emerge champions.
Hugo Sterling scored the first goal for Wasbak International before Wahab Al-Amin got an equaliser for Bamise God.
In the girls final, Pentagon Queens pummeled Puma Girls FC 4-1 to lift the trophy.Two goals from Taiwo Ayomide and one goal each from Hassan Sofiat and David Rosemary gave Pentagon Queens a deserved victory.
However, Mistura Olamilekan scored a consolation for Puma Queens.At the end of the competition, medals, trophies and prize monies were given to the first, second, third, fourth winners in both Boys and Girls.
The winners in both Boys and Girls received the sum of N400, 000 each while N300, 000 each were given to the runners up in the Boys and Girls categories.
Also, the third-place winners in Boys and Girls collected N200, 000 each while the fourth-place winners got N100, 000 each.
The competition ‘Eko Youth Cup’, which was sponsored by Courteville Business Solutions PLC in collaboration with Lagos State Grassroots Soccer Association featured 64 teams in both Boys and Girls categories.
The Group Managing Director, Courteville Business Solutions PLC, Dr. Adebola Ismail Akindele said the 7th edition was better than the previous editions while promising an improved and better competition in the 8th edition next year.
“We are hoping that the national teams; U-17 and others will find a number of these talents very useful as we had in the past. Also, this tournament is a great way to get these children engaged.
“It was a great tournament and I commend Lagos State Grassroots Soccer Association for organizing this wonderful tournament. The 7th edition is the best tournament so far and I believe the next edition edition will be better than what we have this year,” Dr Akindele said.
