Ahead U-16 Mabel Athletics Tourney: Organisers Expect More Than 15 Schools

Organisers of the much anticipated U-16 Princess Mabel Madojiemu Athletics Competition have confirmed the participation of fifteen secondary schools for the three days event.

The athletics competition which is being sponsored by Nigeria’s former quarter-miler, Princess Mabel Madojiemu would commence from 21 through 23, February at the Igueben Grammar School, Igueben, Edo State.

Head Coach of Athletics, Edo State Sports Commission, Mutiu Oluwa told our correspondent on Monday morning that more than 10 schools have shown interest in the event saying that no fewer than 500 athletes students would be in attendance for the three days event.

“Some schools in Edo North and Central have shown interest in our programme and presently we have seen 15 secondary schools that are willing to participate in our event.

“As a matter of fact we are expecting 500 students athletes in this year’s edition and we are still expecting more schools to register with us before the kick off date,”he said.

Oluwa, who is a member of organising committee also disclosed that the organisers have put accommodation in place for athletes, and work has started at the venue before the event kicks off.

“The committe has started working at the venue.We have finished shot put court and the long jump pitch is almost completed.

“Presently the venue is gradually in new look.The date for the commencement has been fixed and we want to put necessary things in place to make this year’s edition a memorable one,”he said.
