Lagos State Football Association Electoral Committee has cleared over 100 candidates to contest for the forthcoming local football council elections sheduled to hold on 24, July at the Sports Bar of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The screening exercise was conducted recently by Electoral Committee headed by Alhaji Azeez Tijani.Some aspirants who failed to meet the electoral requirements were screened out, while other aspirants who met the requirements were cleared to contest for the chairmanship seat and board members of football council elections.
In the list of successful Candidates released by the secretary of electoral commiittee, Rabiu-Okikioposu Akeem, the elections would be conducted in the 20 local councils in the state and no fewer than 100 candidates would contest for various positions.
It is observed that the elections would be kneely contested in Alimosho football council as the three candidates are vying for position of chairmanship seat.The names are Olojo Kosoko Olanrewaju,Olatigbe Tajudeen Olanrewaju and Lawal Ibrahim Olasunkanmi.
It would be a battle to the finish in some local councils as two candidates are vying for chairman’ seat.The councils are Agege, Kosofe,Lagos Mainland,Amuwo-Odofin, Surulere,Ajeromi, Ibeju-Lekki, Badagry and Eti-Osa.
Only ten local councils have unopposed candidates in the chairmanship position.The councils are Ifako-Ijaiye, Apapa, Shomolu,Lagos Island, Oshodi-Isolo, Mushin,Ojo, Ikorodu,Ikeja and Epe.
Akeem in a chat with our correspondent urged all the candidates not to see the elections as a do or die affairs saying that whoever emerges as a winner should congratulate all the the candidates and embrace one another.
“I am using this medium to urge all our candidates to shun electoral violence during and after the elections. Let all the candidates accept the results in good faith and rather to take law into their hands. I wish all of them best of luck and successful outings,” he said.
