In a remarkable show of commitment to education, Agege Local Government Area, has rewarded the top-performing students, their schools, and the education district with a total sum of ₦5 million following their outstanding results in the 2025 West African Examination Council (WAEC) examinations.
The Chairman of Agege Local Government, Alhaji Azeez Tunde, alongside his Vice Chairman, Alhaji Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa, made the announcement, stressing that the gesture was aimed at celebrating excellence and motivating more students to aspire for greatness in academics.
The best-performing student, Akintoye Boluwatife Niemat of Government Senior College, Agege, who obtained 7 A1s, 1 B3, and 1 C6, was awarded ₦1 million. She was followed by her schoolmate, Hassan Aisha Ayomide, who scored 6 A1s and 3 B3s, also receiving ₦1 million. The third top performer, Olatunji Olayinka Deborah of Dairy Farm Senior Secondary School, Agege, who secured 5 A1s, 2 B2s, and 3 B3s, was equally given ₦1 million.
In addition to the students’ rewards, the local government also recognised the institutions that nurtured them. Government Senior College, Agege, which produced two of the winners, was awarded ₦1 million, while Dairy Farm Senior Secondary School, Agege, received ₦500,000. Furthermore, the Agege Education District was honoured with ₦500,000, bringing the total disbursement to ₦5 million.
Speaking at the event, Chairman Tunde commended the students, teachers, and education officials for their dedication to excellence. “Education remains the strongest legacy we can bequeath to the next generation. By rewarding these outstanding students, their schools, and the district, we are encouraging a culture of hard work, resilience, and academic distinction,” he said.
Vice Chairman Obasa described the initiative as a historic investment in human capital, emphasising that the local government would continue to prioritise educational development as a cornerstone of community progress.
Parents, teachers, and community leaders applauded the initiative, noting that it would not only inspire other students but also strengthen collaboration between schools and the government towards raising future leaders from Agege.
