A Team Nigeria boxer, who is from Lagos State, Mariam Adeshina, was on cloud nine following an impressive performance displayed when she faced her opponent, Matthias from South Africa on Sunday night in the 50kg women category.
Adeshina, who enjoyed full support from Nigerians and Ghanaians at the ringside, went to the boxing ring with high expectations.
Adeshina could not waste time as she rained punches on her opponent at the beginning. Her footwalk and jabbing were perfect to the extent that her opponent could not withstand her for the three bouts.
The Nigerian boxer, Adeshina, who was delighted to watch declared a winner after round three. She defeated her opponent 5-0 and her performance throughout her bout was appreciated and commendable by the boxing fans.
Adeshina, while speaking with our correspondent, boasted that she was coming to the boxing ring with the mind of winning, adding that her target is to win a gold medal for Nigeria.
Adeshina who won gold and Silver medals in Edo and Delta for Team Lagos in the last two national sports festivals dedicated her victory to her coach, dad and fans who supported her throughout her preparation for the Games in Nigeria.
“I am in Ghana to make my country proud. Before the bout, I was expecting victory so my victory was expected and well deserved. I am using this medium to thank my coach, dad and my fans who were always there for me throughout my preparation for the African Games,” he said.
