It was a celebration galore for the fans and followers of Larry Football Club of Agege following their 2-1 victory over G-Innovation FC in the final of Lagos Mini Football League.
The closing ceremony held on Saturday at Keke Primary School, Agege. The tournament was put together by Lagos Mini Football League Association in conjunction with Nigeria Mini Football Association.
Larry boys who came to the final with high expectations quickly got their first goal through Michael Adeyemo in the early first half. Both teams performed excellently well and entertained the fans with their football artistry in the first half.
The second half was tensed as both teams raised the tempo of the game. Ajulo Ibukunoluwa netted the second goal to seal the victory for Larry FC. G-Innovation who also gave a good account of themselves got the consolatory goal through Osuji Candid towards the end of the encounter.
Speaking after the match, Larry coach, Waheed Baruwa expressed gratitude to God for the hard fought victory boasting that his team deserved to be crowned as champions.
“It was a revenge match for us because we met in the group stage and our opponents defeated us 2-0 but today (Saturday) it was our own turn and the victory was well deserved. I commend my boys for their brilliant performance and I also extend my heartfelt gratitude to the chairman of our club,Mr Olanrewaju Sanyaolu for his unalloyed support given the team since we started this tournament, “he said.
Speaking earlier, Chairman of Agege Local Government Council and who also doubles as Chairman of Lagos Mini Football League, Honourable Abdul Ganiyu Vinod Obasa told journalists that the league was organised to keep the football clubs busy around Agege and its environs and ensure that talents are discovered and nurtured.
He explained that the Agege Mini Football League has come to stay saying that the association would continue to promote the game among the grassroots clubs and give the young players a platform to discover themselves.
In the female category played earlier, Unification Ladies defeated Dream Stars Ladies 4-3 in the final to emerge as champions.
During the medal presentation, the winners received a giant trophy with a medal and cash prize in each category as both first and second runner up also went home with medals and prize money.
