Hundreds of kids who are playing in U-13 and 15 categories are expected to play for their football academies in the Holiday Gold Cup which begins on Thursday at the Ijegun football pitch,Alimosho ,Lagos.
The competition is packaged by Grassroots Football Nigeria & Sammy Football Academy in conjunction with Ijegun Youth Football Development tagged the tournament “U-13 &15 Holiday Gold Cup”
In the fixtures released by the organisers, the tournament would kick off on Thursday in both categories as the participating teams are looking forward to the successful outings.
There would be only one and official match on Thursday in U-13 as Sammy FA tackle Wonderlight FA by 4pm.
Action resumes on Friday, JSL Academy tackle Sammy FA by 10am, Sane Lion FA confront Radiant FA by 10:50am, Rising Stars Lake FA battle IGFC boys by 11:40am as Super Accurate go to war against Agars FA by 12:30pm.
In U-15 category, only one match is slated for Thursday as Sammy boys tackle City Lions FA by 5pm.Two matches lined up on Friday while Wonderlight FA tackle Leklona FA by 2pm as IGFC boys battle Heritage FA by 3pm.
Chairman Organising Committee, Samuel Haruna said the competition was put together to keep the kids around Alimosho and its environs busy during their school holiday and help the coaches to test some of their newly recruited players.
He urged the participants to always abide by the rules of the competition and reminded the coaches and club owners whose teams are participating in the competition to channel their grievances to the disciplinary committee for any action that is not in the rules and regulations guiding the tournament.
Match coordinator, Sheriff Olokodana admonished the coaches and club owners to be punctual on their match day saying that any team come late to their match venue is automatically walkover.
“We have given 20 and 25 minutes each half play time for the two categories and we don’t want the teams to come late for their match venue and any club found wanting would be punished and sanctioned immediately, “he said.
