Arrangements have been completed for the third edition of the Fans For Fun (FFF) U-17 Unity Football Tournament, a community-level event aimed at fostering young talent within schools throughout Lagos State.
The event is set to begin on May 13, 2026, and will take place at four locations in metropolitan Lagos. The venues include the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena (Onikan Stadium), Maracana Stadium, Nitel Playground, and the Sports Centre at the University of Lagos.
During a press briefing before the tournament at Teslim Balogun Stadium, tournament organiser Olatunbosun Akande highlighted the importance of tackling the widening gap in youth football development nationwide.
He mentioned that the FFF Unity Cup aims to create an opportunity for school-affiliated players to demonstrate their skills.
Akande stated that the main goal of the tournament is to provide visibility rather than monetary incentives, although there is a total cash prize of N10 million that will be distributed among the top four teams. The champions will receive N4 million, while the second-place team will get N3 million. The teams finishing in third and fourth places will take home N2 million and N1 million, respectively.
He also revealed that 18 exceptional players will be chosen at the conclusion of the tournament for an international training expedition at the Liverpool Football Club International Academy located in the United Kingdom.
Additionally, Dotun Coker, vice chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, praised the organisers for their efforts, emphasising that the tournament will support both male and female teams from the 57 local government and local council development areas, and will benefit from technical assistance provided by the FA.
He mentioned that the competition has received official support from the Football Association.
