Organisers of the New Revolution Cup have explained why they adopted European Champions League Format instead of adopting normal group matches always observe in grassroots football competitions in the state.

At the draws conference held recently, chairman organising committee, Lucky Ose Omozokpia disclosed that adoption European Champions League Format is a new innovation and allow the participating teams to play more matches before qualifying for the quarter finals.

A total of 24 teams have registered for the tournament and they would be in the single group and the best top four teams would automatically qualify for the quarter finals, while teams from position of fifth to twelfth in the group would play qualification playoffs.

During the qualification playoffs, the best four winners would join already four teams making eight teams to play in the quarter final stage.

Omozokpia said the beauty of this competition is that all the teams would fight for points in the single group and ensure that they are among the top four or be among the teams that would play qualification playoffs before reaching the quarter final stage.

“I adopted this champions league format as new innovation and the competition itself is tagged ‘New Revolution Cup’ so everything we used to do before has changed and we have adopted a new format for the competition.
