Assistant Coach of Ikorodu City Academy, Franklin Akinbule has dedicated team’s victory against Nath Boys in the semi final of 1XBET Cup to his boss,Oluwasanmi Doherty.
The pulsating tie which was held on Monday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena popularly known as Onikan Stadium saw Ikorodu city deeders defeated Nath Boys 4-1 on penalty shootout after one goal apiece at the regulation time.
Akinbule said the victory was well deserved and commended his boys for his commitment and resilience displayed throughout the encounter.
“It was a tough match for us because our opponents gave us a good fight and I am happy that we won through penalties at the end of the day.
“At this moment,I dedicate this victory to our club chairman and other management staff for their support given to us throughout all our matches,”he said.
Asked what really gave them the victory,Akinbule said his tactical changes in the second half gave them the equaliser to keep hope alive in the encounter watched by hundred of spectators.
“Honestly I was able to make right changes in the second half which really brought us back to the game.Our equaliser came at the right time and my boys also played to instructions. I congratulate them for this victory and we are looking foward to the exciting final,”he said.
Remi Akintola opened goal for Naths boys in the early second half but Ikorodu boys quickly got the equaliser through Afeez Adeshina to drag the game into penalty shootouts.
In the second semi final, Dosu. Joseph boys suffered 2-0 defeat in the hands of ISGAT Athletics FC
The final is now between Ikorodu FA against ISGAT Athletics on 16th October at Onikan Stadium.
