The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was in Monaco, at the weekend to witness the E1 Racing Championship with a plan to replicate this water-motorsports event, the first of its kind in Africa.
The Governor posted on his Facebook page Sunday afternoon revealing how splendid was the trip to Monaco was to him and his entourage who included top Lagos State Government officials, one of whom was the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu.

Basking in the euphoria of the exciting moments at the E1 Racing Championship, Governor Sanwo-Olu wrote: “This weekend, we were in Monaco experiencing the E1 Racing Championship. It was a good reminder of how innovation, determination, and bold ideas can come tlogether to create something truly groundbreaking.
“I’m proud to share that Lagos will become the first African city to host the E1 Championship on October 4th and 5th, 2025. That’s a major milestone for the sport and for what it says about our city. It shows that Lagos is ready to be part of the global conversation on clean energy, sustainability, and new approaches to marine transportation.

“This is an opportunity to show the world what makes Lagos special, our culture, our energy, and our people. It’s a chance to welcome visitors, share our stories, and highlight the incredible potential of our city.

DG Fatodu described the leadership qualities of the Sports loving Lagos State governor, applauding the significance of the Monaco visit.
