As the ongoing Ileya football tournament has reached the semi-final stage today, four teams are ready to face one another to know who will pick the final ticket.
The competition, which is being sponsored by football enthusiast, Kudus Kasal, i is taking place at the Igando proposed palace ground, Alimosho, Lagos.
The first semi-final will be held this afternoon between Ologbonla FC tackle Ultimate Stars FC at 3pm, while Future Stars battle Prime FC on Thursday at 2pm.
Meanwhile, there was a protest against Young Stars FC for fielding an ineligible player against Future Stars in the quarter final, and the disciplinary committee, headed by Kazeem Adeyemi, immediately announced the team’s disqualification to pave the way for Future Stars to book a place in the semi-final.
Match coordinator, Sulaiman Gbadamonsi, confirmed the disqualification and noted that the findings by the disciplinary committee showed that Young Stars truly fielded an unregistered player which is against the rules and regulations.
“It was sad that Young Stars, who won their opponents 4-1 through the penalties, discovered that they used an unregistered player. Our rules are against it, and the result is immediate disqualification and a heavy fine,” he said.
However,Emeka Ogechuckwu of Prime FC is the leading goal scorers with 4 goals, followed by Chidera Ezeno of Future Stars 99 with 2 goals.
Speaking ahead of semi final, Gbadamonsi urged the team’s to shun violence that may mar the tournament and warned that any team found guilty would be sanctioned accordingly.
