Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu has revealed that Lagos has been awarded hosting right for the 2026 National Youth Games.
In a chat with our correspondent in the ongoing Gateway Games taking place at Abeokuta, Fatodu confirmed that Lagos would host the next National Youth Games and commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his passion about youth and sports development in the state.
He explained that the state is known as a talent developer considering its remarkable performances in the past national youth games.
He also disclosed that the state would use the next year’s game to showcase abundant talents discovered and prepare them for the future national sports festivals.
“Presently, we are still focusing on the ongoing National Sports Festival which Team Lagos are competing favourably well with other states.
“Let me say that our Governor recently announced the state’s readiness to host next year’s national youth games and we will be delighted to host thousands of Nigerian youths in our state comes next year,” he said.
Fatodu, however, showered encomium on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his commitment to sports development in the state and assured good outing for Team Lagos in next year national youth games.
Commenting on the performance of Team Lagos in the ongoing National Sports Festival,the sport administrator expressed satisfaction with the athletes who have made the state proud and charged them to remain focused in their various sporting events.
“Like I said earlier, we have done everything for our athletes in terms of their welfare, allowances and other incentives to make them perform, and I am quite delighted to see our athletes competing well in various sporting events since the event started,”he concluded.
