Some of the ex-internationals who attended the just concluded 6th Edition of the U-13 JOF Cup final have commended the sponsor, JOF Nigeria Limited, for sustaining the tournament in the last six years.
The JOF Cup final was held recently at the University of Lagos sports complex.
Varsity FA from Lagos Island defeated B. Unit FA from Mainland 1-0 in the final, while Strong Dove from Orile humbled First Class Boys from Lagos Island 3-1 to win a third-place match.
Speaking with our correspondent after the match, Waidi Akanni said he was satisfied with the standard of play by the finalists and praised the sponsor for its contribution to the football development in the state
He congratulated the finalists for their good performance and particularly showered encomium on the winner for a job well done.
“It was a successful final, and what I saw in the teams shows that we still have enough talent that can make the country proud in the future. I am happy that JOF Nigeria Limited has taken it upon itself to sustain this competition for six years, and I also commend its contribution to the football development in the state.
“However, I want to use this medium to call on other corporate bodies too to channel their resources so that more talents can be discovered and come to the limelight,” he said.
Speaking in the same vein, Wasiu Ipaye, who played for the Super Eagles in the 1990 Africa Cup of Nations in Algeria, praised the teams for their impressive performances and urged their coaches to continue mentoring and nurturing them to stardom.
Edema Benson appreciated JOF Nigeria Limited’s effort in sponsoring a football tournament for kids and called on other corporate companies and well-meaning Nigerians to channel their resources to sports development.
Other ex-internationals in attendance are Godwin Okpara, Friday Ekpo, Friday Elaho, MBA Agbai and Monday Kanu.
