Lagos State Football Association, LSFA has announced the appointment of Mrs Vera Hycient Okechukwu as a new secretary of the state football ruling body following the redeployment of its former secretary, Akeem Rabiu-Okikiopusu by the Lagos State Sports Commission.
The Lagos FA at its emergency board ratified the choice of Mrs. Vera Okechukwu as the LSFA Secretary.
By her appointment, she became the second woman secretary since the inception of Lagos FA and among the only three female secretaries in Nigeria.
The LSFA, in a press statement remarked that the appointment of the new secretary was based on the Lagos State Football Association 2023 Statutes as amended under section 5d, which empowers the body to appoint a substantive secretary. The appointment was ratified unanimously by the ten board members at the emergency meeting.
Mrs. Vera Okechukwu has served under different secretaries and has shown capacity over the years.
She has worked in various capacities at different clubs, including working as Assistant Secretary, Bayelsa Football Club; team Manager, Cerezo Queens of Ilorin; and an Administrative Officer at Pepsi Football Academy, under the tutelage of Late Coach Kashimawo Laluko.
She has Bsc. in Physical and Health Education from Lagos State University and Advance Certificate in Sports Management from the National Institute of Sports.
