The General Hospital Badagry has organised an orientation programme for its first batch of House Officers deployed by the Lagos State Health Service Commission as a result of the accreditation granted to the facility in November 2024 by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
The event, which took place at the facility, on Tuesday, was aimed at detailing and equipping the House Officers with the necessary knowledge relating to routine procedures for the right diagnoses and safe treatment of patients.
The exercise underscored the state of preparedness of the hospital in ensuring that the young officers are well-grounded in relevant knowledge that would help them navigate their internship programme successfully as they commence their one-year mandatory training at the hospital.
In his presentation, the Medical Director/CEO of Badagry General Hospital, Dr. Olatunde Bakare enlightened the participants on the various prospects achievable in medical practice that could also aid them in building a successful medical practice as they begin their careers.
According to him, “The starting point is the grace of God, not the location. Pray that the road you take will match your destinies because 80 percent of your success depends on who you interact with in life. Read and look for good specialities, and be prepared for opportunities that would not come when you are not ready.”
The 15 House Officers, who applied for housemanship at the State’s Health Service Commission, came from different Federal and State Universities across the country with three of them from foreign universities.
The orientation programme was divided between morning and afternoon sessions, comprising specialised topics facilitated by Consultants, Doctors, and Heads of Department, among others, at the facility.
