Thousands of students in various schools in 11 local government councils of Gombe State on Saturday morning stormed the Patanmi Township Stadium to witness the closing ceremony of the week-long Gombe Inter Secondary Schools Athletics Championship/Principal’s Cup which came to a close in a grand style.
The talk of the town tournaments is packaged by Green White Green Sport Centre Limited under the Chairmanship of Hon Ahmed. Shuaibu-Gara Gombe.
No fewer than 25 secondary schools took part in the match pass which was not only colorful but glamorous to the mammoth crowd who witnessed the closing ceremony.
Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar, Emir of Gombe ably represented by Alhaji Dan-Adala and other dignitaries were impressed with the participants for their laudable performance at the match pass.
Before the official closing ceremony which held on Saturday morning,some schools were already celebrating their achievements, awards, and scintillating performances.
The competition has not only highlighted individual athletic prowess but also fostered school spirit and camaraderie among students.
One of the standout performers was U-20
Boy’s 3000m champion, Lamech Danladi who represented Diocesan High School Bulari. Danladi set a personal best record (PB) enroute his victory.
Some events like relay and invitational tertiary relay were decided earlier as part of the orders of programmes lined up for today’s activities.
Also Principals’Cup selected side divided into two teams to play each other so as to allow the Nigerian born German based, Andrew Uwe and Tony Ambrose to scout for talents that would be invited to football academy in Germany.
Meanwhile the football final was decided yesterday as Government Day Secondary
School (GDSS) Shehu Abubakar are the champions of the 2025 Gombe State Inter
Secondary School Principal’s Cup.
The school’s football team defeated Savannah School Gombe in a keenly contested final match played at the Gombe Stadium in Pantami on Friday evening to emerge champions of the five days soccer fiesta.
Adamu Maigari scored the lone goal of the match seven minutes to hand his
side the giant trophy of the competition and N200,000 cash prize.
The GDSS’s victory over Savannah in the Gombe Principal’s Cup not only highlights the school’s soccer prowess but also fosters
school pride and community spirit.
In the third match decided before the final match, Government Science Technical College (GSTC) defeated Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Academy 4-3 on penalty to win the bronze medal.
