Former Flying Eagles defender, Andrew Uwe has revealed that despite the fact that he applied for Flying Eagles coaching job three times,he had not invited for interview until Coach Aliyu Zubairu was given the job some months ago.
Former defender defunct Leventis FC of Lagos said this while speaking with journalists in Gombe at the ongoing Inter Secondary Schools Athletics championship in Gombe State.
Uwe, who has attended various coaching courses in Europe said he was surprised that NFF techincai department that is in charge of recruiting coaches to the national teams has not invited him for interview after he submitted his applications.
“Having stayed in Germany for almost 30 years and I felt at a point to apply for Flying Eagles job when it was advertised but I can tell you today that I applied for the job three times and I was never invited for an interview.
“I even met former sports minister, John Enoh in the process and asked if I could relocate if I am given the job and I said yes.Only for me to know later that Coach Zubairu was given the Flying Eagles job at the end of the day,”said Uwe who was disappointed the way and manner NFF technical department handled its application.
Asked why was he snubbed despite his sacrifice for the country during his active days, Uwe said he could not say what caused it after he acquired requisite coaching certificates abroad.
“If I tell you I know what caused it,I am lying to you because I believe that I have what it takes to handle the Flying Eagles unfortunately I was not even invited for interview despite my applications to NFF,”he said.
Former Super Eagles defender said he would not allow what NFF did for him to distract him saying that he is ready to handle any premier or NNL team that needs his service.
He disclosed that presently him and his friend, Henry Ambrose are in Nigeria particularly in Gombe State to scout for raw talents that would take to Germany for trials.
Speaking in the same vein, Former First Bank FC, Henry Ambrose said he had set up a sports management to give young Nigerian good footballers a platform to start their football career in Europe.
“Uwe and I are in Gombe to have partner with Chairman Gombe Athletics Association and Gombe Sporting Football Club, Alhaji Ahmed Gara Gombe and our discussion recently was fruitful which I believe it would begin to yield positive results in the next few months,”he said.
Ambrose and his friend, Uwe would watch the ongoing Inter Secondary Schools Athletics championship and principal cup.The duo in Gombe to select best athletes and players that would be invited to Germany for trials.
