Chekas United Football Club on Saturday afternoon began their campaign on a winning note following their 1-0 hard fought victory against SC Heritage in the ongoing Badagry Football League.
The match which held at Ashiribo football pitch, Badagry expressway lived up to expectations as both teams gave a good account of themselves.
The encounter ended goalless in the first half but Chekas United began to dominate the game in the early second half until Victor Effiong effort was rewarded in the 58th minutes to send his teammates into wild jubilation.
Heritage boys who fought tooth and nail to get the equaliser proved abortive as Chekas United ran away with the victory.
Reacting to the victory, Chekas United Coach,Moses Udoh expressed satisfaction with the result but noted that his boys did not live up to his expectations.
“I expect my boys to play better but they did not as a result of change of venue at the last minute which affected their performance. I am happy on the other hands that we secured the three points which is very important for us,”he said.
In another centre at Ishashi Primary School, Alaska boys secured a 1-0 victory against Ona-Ara FC in the enconter watched by appreciable crowd.
A goal from Sharani Numan in the 85th minutes was Alaska needed to secure three points at stake.
Alaska Coach,Timipa Emmanuel also expressed delight over his team’s performance despite their short one as a result of red card in the first half.
“it was a tough game for us especially when the refree sent one of our players outside for his rough marking.i thank God that the goal came towards the end of the game.However i still need to work on our weakness before our next game,”he said.
BDFA Boss,Dr Martins Osondu who monitored some matches in four centres commended the organising commiittee dor their commitment and dedication to the league.
He described this year’s league well coordinated and organised and urged the commiittee to give their best in the subsequent matches.
Osondu extended his appreciation to the match officials in various centres for the job well done noted that the reports he received from other cordinators were very impressive.
“We just started our league today and i must confess that all the centres have done well.Our match officials lived up to expectations, while our coordinators in various centres did excellent job.This is beginning and i wish it should continue like that,”he said.
