Jagaban Cup Final: Smart City Not Better Than Us, Says 36 Lion Coach

Chief Coach of 36 Lion Football Club of Lagos, Akinshola Francis Akinrele has insisted that Smart City are not better than his team saying that they were just lucky to have won Jagaban Cup for the second time.

Smart City defeated 36 Lion 5-4 on penalty shootout after one goal apiece at the regulation time in the final of Jagaban Cup which held on Friday at the Mobolaji Arena popularly known as Onikan Stadium, Lagos.

Akinrele said his boys gave a good account of themselves throughout the encounter but pointed out that his boys were not lucky during the penalty shootout.

“It was a painful result because my players were better and deserved to win the game unfortunately we were not lucky at the penalties.Smart City are equally a good side but they were not better than us on the field of play,”he said.

Smart City Coach, Kabiru Alausa said both teams played good football and admitted that they were lucky to have won their opponents during the penalty shootout.

“It was a tough game for us especially during the second half.We tried to soak the pressure but they got the equaliser at the last minute.This is to tell you that our opponents gave us a good fight but i thank God we were triumphed at the penalty shootout,”he said.
