All African Games: SWAN President Urges Journalists To Give Team Nigeria Good Reportage

President of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Isaiah Benjamin has admonished Nigerian journalists who are covering the ongoing African Games to report the good image of the country and avoid any form of sensationalism story that may bring the image of the country into disrepute.

Benjamin said this while addressing the journalists at the media center of University of Ghana on Monday

The president commended Nigerian journalists for their commitment and dedication showed since the game started and quickly reminded them that they should report accurately, fairly and objective while carrying out their duties.

“I thank my colleagues who are in Ghana for somedays now covering the All African Games and i understand the challenges you are all facing.

“As much as we are here representing our dear nation, it is our national duty to report how are our athletes are performing in all the games and also, we should try as much as possible to report the good image of the country in the course of our Duty, “he said.

Benjamin however cautioned Nigerian journalists on sensitive or controversial issues, and they should avoid sensationalism story that may have adverse effect on the performance of athletes in African Games.

Also speaking, Public Relation Officer (PRO) of Nigeria Olympic Committee, Tony Nezanya has expressed satisfaction with the commitment of Journalists for the games and urged them to remain focused and steadfast throughout the games.

The PRO also commended the journalists for projecting the good image of the country through their reports and advised them to conduct themselves in a professional, respectful and ethical manner at all times while covering the event.
