*Attends Training With Para Power Lifting Athletes
The Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu has emphasized that school sports is the bedrock of sports development as it serves as a platform that birth future stars and contributed positively to the overall development of Student-athletes.
He made the statement at the 17th edition of Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls held at the University of Lagos Sports Ground, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos State.
He said School Sports also serves as a great platform to teach young students’ importance like skills such as responsibility, discipline, hard-work, commitment and teamwork and other values that aid evolution into a well-rounded citizen who are ready for the life as professionals and model citizens.
Fatodu further stated that success with school sports will also yield immediate social benefits such as providing youths with enough focus to enable them contribute positively to the society, adding that it will ultimately reduce to the bearest minimum all the forms of juvenile delinquency,truancy, societal menace, negative peer pressure and others to mention a few.
“School Sports is the bedrock of sustainable sports development geared towards using sports as a tool for discovering early-stage development of talented athletes and the critical first step in preparing student-athletes for a positive career in sports”.
Fatodu disclosed that the initiative is in tandem with the Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s youth empowerment and engagement drive for Lagos rising through the THEMES+ plus agenda for education and sports.
While declaring his support for the grassroots sports, Fatodu posited that top talents discovered through the school sports will eventually become representatives of the state at the national events, stressing that they can ultimately represent the country at the international tournaments, such the Commonwealth champion, Adijat Adenike Olarinoye; Olympian and current African champion in Badminton, Anuoluwapo Opeyori, his counterpart Godwin Olofua and Lagos’ pugilist Omole Dolapo who already bagged a ticket to Paris Olympics Games in France, to mention just a few.
Meanwhile, the Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, trained alongside the incredible Lagos Para Power lifting Team on Friday and their dedication blew him away.
The Director General and the Para Power lifting team learned new techniques together, and he gained a deeper understanding of the challenges and triumphs of the athletes
