Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice President of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has reiterated the Commission’s commitment to combating internet fraud.
He said this on Wednesday in Abuja while paying a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
He highlighted the longstanding partnership of the NCC with the EFCC in the fight against internet fraud. Maida spoke about the purpose of his visit, adding that he was at the Commission to congratulate the EFCC boss on his appointment.
The visit is one of those official events aimed at deepening the conversation and cooperation between us.
He recalled that the EFCC had facilitated the forensic training of some NCC personnel, stressing that the interrelationship between the two commissions was crucial in the fight against internet fraud.
“Cybercrime is sophisticated and the NCC as a key partner is always ready to work with the EFCC in every possible area to help achieve the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
However, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, called for full collaboration and synergy among the NCC to address the menace across the country.
Olukoyede noted that fraudsters are using the internet as a gateway for their crimes and called on the NCC to be stricter in its regulatory work.
“If authorities enforce the law and regulators work together, it will not be business as usual.Collaboration is necessary because crime is driven by technology,” he explained.
He said the cooperation between the two commissions shows greater willingness to address the threat of internet fraud and reassured fraudsters that crime is not an everyday occurrence for them.
Olukoyede said that the problem the country is facing can be overcome and called for greater commitment to have a Nigeria free of corruption.
He called on the NCC and internet service providers to monitor internet usage more closely to checkmate the activities of fraudsters.
According to him, the Commission would do its job perfectly if stakeholders supported and cooperated with the EFCC.
