Some youths in Igando community area of Ikotun/Igando Local Council Development Area of Lagos have begged and notified Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene in the erratic power supply given the community in the last four months by Ikeja Electric.

The entire Igando community and its environs have been throwing into perpetual darkness in the last four months as businesses are grounded while some residents set to leave the community as a result of lack of power supply

Early this year, some landlords and tenants went to Igando Undertaking to complain about the poor supply and workers in Igando Undertaking assured them of stable power supply before end of January.

Our correspondent who visited Igando and its environs on Monday observed that youths were lamenting and complaining bitterly that the community has suffered erratic power supply in the last four months despite their appeal to Ikeja Electric recently to intervene and find the lasting solution to the poor power supply.

One of the youths in the community, Jimoh Adeoti said only Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu can intervene in Igando poor power supply, saying that if there is no change this week, the youths in the community would embark on protest to Igando Undertaking.

“We want our Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene now because Ikeja Electric has failed us. We are saying this because if we start our protest to Igando Undertaking, I don’t know what would happen,”he said.

In his own comment, Emmanuel Agboola said Igando is one of the big communities in Lagos and if such community cannot boast of regular power light, it shows that all is not well in the state.

“Let use this medium to let our Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu know that we are in perpetual darkness in the last four months. At the last elections, Igando community delivered for APC in both governorship and presidential elections and if such community lacks power supply, we must let our Governor knows about it and do something about it,”he said.

In her own reaction, Mrs Gbemisola Aina said she is sad to see regular light in places like Ikotun, Shasha, Ayobo-Ipaja, Egbeda, Idimu-Isheri, Jonathan Estate and Gowon Estate and others, but Igando has been abandoned by Ikeja Electric.

“I have gone to many places and their light is not bad like Igando. I think we need to call the attention of the Governor to send his representatives to Igando and observe the community. What we want from Governor Sanwo-Olu is constant light as our dividend of democracy, “she said.

Another youth, John Anthony who resides at Alhaji Ede street, close to Alhaji Ede Bus Stop said he cannot work any longer as an software engineer, adding that he has lost most of his clients as a result of poor power supply.

“The most annoying thing is that they would give us 2 to 3 minutes and off it.Why did they bring it in the first place. We are appealing to Governor Sanwo-Olu to help us because I have lost my clients because of light. Secondly, the heat is too much and people begin to sleep outside now which is not good enough for the residents of Igando community,”he said.
