BY SUNDAY AKINTOYE

Residents of Igando Communities of Lagos State have expressed their grievances over the poor power supply in the area for almost three months as the angry residents called on Ikeja Electric to come to their rescue before taking law into their hands.

For the past three months now, new Igando communities are in perpetual darkness following the major fault in Ejigbo transmission station.

Recently some landlords and tenants from various streets at Alhaji Ede Bus- Stop visited Igando Undertaking office of Ikeja Electric to know what actually happened to their power supply.

One of the workers they met said the feeder that supplies the light from Ejigbo transmission station got fault that they had written letter to notify Ikeja electric and other relevant authorities.

A resident, Kevin Martins who was among the people visited Igando Undertaking said the feeder got fault truly and Ikeja electric man said new one has been provided to replace the faulty one and promised by middle of the January, the light would be stable.

“We are suffering from poor power supply because we did not enjoy this light since November last year.We are in perpetual darkness. They promised to restore the light and till now, nothing has been done.

“We are calling on Ikeja Electric to look into Igando communities and see what they can do to bring our light back. The light we are getting now is nothing to write home about. Is like flashing the light to us and we cannot continue in this way,”he said.

Corroborating his views, Omolara Badejo expressed disappointment over the erractic power supply in the last three months suggested that the residents should stage a peaceful protest to Igando undertaking office and register their displeasure over their inability to live up to expections.

“We are seriously suffering from power supply here at Igando especially areas in between Igando Housing Estate and General Hospital and its enirons are facing serious light problem.

“We are using this medium to call on Ikeja Electric to come and rectify Igando power supply because people are angry over the poor supply light and if it continues like this, residents would fight back and the result would not be good for the workers working in Igando Undertaking,”she said.

A nursing mother who refused to mention her name disclosed that people are resorted to sleep outside because of heat and lack of power supply.

She however said Igando light is completely write off saying that the places like Egbeda, Ayobo, Ikotun, Ijegun, Shasha, Idimu, Council, Baruwa ,Gowon Estate and other places still enjoying regular power supply than Igando communities.

One of the students,Kola Ademola who attends Igando Community High School said he has stopped reading in the night because of poor power supply which really affected his academic performance in the first term.

“I am not happy with the situation of light in Igando.I stay at Alhaji Ede street close to Alhaji Ede bus stop, hardly we see three hours light in a day.As a student, it really affects me because i hardly read again in the night,”he said.

When our correspondent visited Igando, most of the traders who sell soft drinks complained that their Freezer hardly cold nowadays lamenting that the sales have drastically reduced in the last three months.

“We are not selling the way we used to sell because people like cold drinks. Our light is bad now and we don’t know when the light would be restored fully,”said one of the traders lamented.
