Engineer Toke Aka, the President of Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF), has been assigned the noble responsibility to head the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) of the second edition of the West Africa Scrabble Championship (WASC) taking place in Lagos, southwest Nigeria.
The Secretary of the Nigerian Scrabble Federation, Mrs. Ejiro Thukson IV, said Chukwudi Ehibudu has been appointed as the Chairman of the Championship’s Marketing and Sponsorship Sub-Committee, which will bring together about 80 players from five countries.
The marketing subcommittee should have no problem raising the $50 million needed to host the event.
NSF Technical Director John Curtis is the Technical Chairman and Tournament Director while Kwara State Scrabble Association (KSSA) President Mayowa Aliyu chairs the Protocol and Entertainment Subcommittee.
Veteran journalist Maxwell Kumoye chairs the league’s media and public relations subcommittee and is supported by Mishael Emmanuel and Dotun Omisakin.
Ejiro Thukson IV heads the secretariat of the second edition of the West African Scrabble Championship hosted by the Lagos Center of Excellence and City of Aquatic Splendors from November 22 to 26, 2023.
Lagos was given the title as a tribute to Benin. and Abuja, which competed to host the largest sub-regional Scrabble tournament in Africa, involving five countries namely Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Gambia and host Nigeria.
Each of the participating countries, except hosts Nigeria, will field 15 players while Nigeria will field 20 players for three days of tough competition.
Twelve thousand dollars was earmarked as prize money for the individual and team championships.
