The Presidential Election Petitions Court has confirmed that Bola Tinubu is the validly elected President of Nigeria.
Haruna Tsammani, chairman of the five-judge panel that delivered the main verdict, made a statement after Atiku Abubakar’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s petition was rejected. Atiku’s case was the third and the last petition aimed at undermining the credibility of the Feb. 25 presidential election, which was rejected by the court on Wednesday after a record 12-hour decision.
The court had previously denied the motions of Peter Obi, the Labour Party and the All Peoples Movement (APM).
Mr Tsammani declared three petitions unfounded.
The three petitions denounced, among other things, Mr. Tinubu’s ineligibility to run for president, irregularities and corrupt practices during the elections, and Mr. Tinubu’s failure to meet all constitutional requirements to be declared the winner of the election , because he failed to get 25% of the votes in the federal capital, Abuja.
The court resolved all issues raised to decide the cases against the plaintiffs and in favour of Mr. Tinubu and the other defendants.
The court found that none of the allegations was supported by credible evidence.
So far, two panellists, Stephen Adah and Misitura Bolaji-Yusuf, have accepted the main judgment’s arguments and conclusions.
Their opinions in accordance with the main clause already constitute the decision of the majority of the court, while the other two judges – Moses Ugo and Abbah Mohammed – wait their turn to express their opinions.
