Saibu Yetunde of Ogun State Saturday sets a new record at 19 minutes 39 seconds to erase the old record sets last year by Kehinde Olude at 20minites 4 seconds. Saibu, who placed fourth in last year’s Ogun Women Run, got a cash prize of N500,000 as the New champion of the 5km Run.
Asekun Olayemi finished second at 19 minutes 50 seconds. Asekun got N300,000 for her effort. Asekun finished third place in last year’s run. While Eweniyi Florence, a first timer in a marathon race, finished at 22 minutes 36seconds to place third. She got a cash prize of N200,000.
The 5km Ogun Women Run organised by Brussells Sports Limited that has Seyi Johnson as the Managing Director, flagged off at 8am Saturday, July 8th, 2023 at Sapon with lots of pre race fanfare, had its finish point at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta.
The Managing Director of Brussels Sports Ltd, Seyi Johnson, expressed delight on the turnout of runners in this year’s edition. He said he was very happy about this development, an indicator that the Ogun Women Run is going places.
He noted that the participation in the Run by veteran Nigerian international athlete, Otonye Iworina, added some colours to the 2023 edition of the Ogun Women Run.
Johnson stressed that: “In future editions of the Run, we hope to have more veteran runners compete in the Ogun Women Run, same as more young athletes who will continue to use the 5km Run as a training ground for bigger races.”
