Chairman of Badagry Divisional Football Association, BDFA, Dr Osondu Martins has come out to explain why teams across the Lagos State are showing interest in the 30th edition of Oba Akran Cup.
Now fewer than 36 teams have completed their registration forms for the competition which would kick off on 8, July across six centres in the division.
The competition is organised by Badagry Divisional Football Association BDFA to mark the birthday of The Akran of Badagry, De Aholu Menu-Toyi 1 which comes up later in the year.
Speaking with our correspondent, Chairman BDFA, Martins explained that over 30 clubs have indicated their interest because of the name attached to the competition and noted that the success of the previous editions informed the club owners and coaches to register for the tournament in this year’s edition.
“Presently we have 36 teams registered with us and we are still expecting more teams to come and register with us.I think the reason for the club owners to show interest in our competition is because of the name we tagged the competition.
“Secondly if you check our previous editions, it was a huge success and a memorable one because we always use best referees and ensure that all the teams are treated equally,” he said.
Martins however urged the clubs that are interested to quickly register with the sum of N20,000 before the registration closes on a stipulated date.
He said the division would welcome teams from Alimosho, Epe, Lagos Island, Agege, Ikeja, Isolo, Mushin, Ejigbo and Ikorodu to come and compete in the tournament and wished all the participating teams all the best in their outings.
In another development, the BDFA recently had organised inaugural congress meeting where Lagos FA football policy were discussed among the members.
Speaking on the inaugural congress, vice chairman of the division, Bishop Lawson Shadrack said the essence of the congress is to share the Lagos FA new programmes with the stakeholders in Badagry and commended the members for supporting the progremmes without disagreement among themselves.
“It was a successful inaugural congress because we were able to discuss what Lagos FA chairman, Fuad Oki told us at the state congress recently to our members. We are doing this to prepare their minds for future challenges and let them know that the new board members of Lagos FA are ready to work and we Badagry DFA are equal to the task,” he said.
