Former Chairman Lagos State Sports Council, Agboola Dabiri has commended the effort of board of Lagos State Football Association for successfully organised a memorable WGB/Lagos FA Cup final.
Dabiri said this at the final of Lagos FA Cup which held on Sunday at the Onikan Stadium.
Ikorodu City defeated Smart city feeders 2-0 to lift the trophy for the first time.
Dabiri said this year’s final surpassed the previous editions in terms of fans attendance, organisation and quality of football played by the two finalists.
“Let me congratulate board members of Lagos State Football Association LSFA led by Seyi Akinwunmi for this successful final. What make this year better is the quality of the play by the finalists.
“Secondly the attendance is very impressive, and venue is good for the players to exhibit their skills. I should not forget to commend the officials who did a perfect job throughout the game,” he said.
Asked which area he wants organisers to improve in subsequent editons, Dabiri quickly suggested that he would be happy if the subsequent FA Cup is a round robin in round of 32 instead of knockout format all through.
“I would be happy if round of 32 can be a league format where some clubs would play two or three matches to determine their qualifications into the next round,” he said.
Dabiri also congratulated Ikorodu City for winning this year’s Lagos FA Cup saying that their effort was not in vain. He said both teams gave their best but better side won it at the end of the day.
