2nd Olowo’s Cup Super 8 Tournament Kicks Off 1 July

The second edition of Olowo’s Cup Super 8 Football Tournament will kick off on Monday, 1 July 2024.

The is a grassroots football competition designed for students in secondary schools in Owo land. It is a competition being organized to honour the Paramount Ruler of Owo land, His Imperial Majesty, Alayeluwa Oba (Dr) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III.

It would be recalled that after the successful hosting of the first edition three years ago, the second edition, up till now, had suffered various postponements due to circumstances beyond the control of the kingdom.

But this year, His Majesty, the Olowo of Owo thought it wise that the tournament concerning the sports development in the Land, must not be left to go into extinction hence, his gracious approval to for the staging of the tournament this year.

In this second edition, eight secondary schools divided into two groups of four teams in each group will participate in the month-long grassroots football competition.

In Group A are Imade College, Owo, Methodist High School, A.U.D. Comprehensive High School and Ijebu Community Grammar School.

Group B consists of Owo High School, New Church Grammar School, Aseyeri-Iyere High School and Ahmadyihah Grammar School.

The opening match will be a cracker between Imade College and Methodist High School by 3pm at the Owo Stadium.

All matches will take place at the Owo Community Stadium.

The final of the tournament is scheduled for 30 July 2024. It’s slated to be one of the side attractions of the renowned Igogo Festival 2024.

The organising committee is seeking the cooperation and support as the Owo Sports Development Committee is out to drive the trade to an enviable heights under the Chairmanship of Dr Olayinka Osho, the Owo Local Government Pillar of Sports.
