The Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) has congratulated the Nigerian representatives who won awards at the CAF African Football Awards with the duo of Asisat Oshoala and Victor Osimhen coming up for special mention.
The duo has origins in Lagos and are part of the success story of Grassroots Football Development in the Center of Excellence.
The Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, Ogboni Fouad Oki Congratulated both superstars for emerging as the best amongst their peers and described it as a testament to the hard work put in by the Lagos State Government through the Football Association to ensure raw superstars are given a chance to achieve excellence in their chosen field.
“This victory is special to us in Lagos State and the FA as it gives us a chance to look at the systems and work, we have set up to ensure we help every Lagos State citizen with a talent to excel just like the State is known as the Center of Excellence.
Rising from the neighborhood of Olusosun in Ojota, Lagos, Victor Osimhen was crowned the African Player of the Year while Asisat Oshoala once again puts Ikorodu and Lagos state on the map with a record-extending 6th CAF African women player of the year award.
Both Asisat and Osimhen both began and honed their talents in Lagos before the world took notice of them.”
Ogboni Fouad Oki further extolled the virtues of the other Nigerian winners at the CAF award which was held in Marrakech, Morroco include, the women’s national team winning the National Team of the Year award (Women), and Chiamaka Nnadozie winning the Best Women Goalkeeper of the Year award.
“The consistency of accolades for the women’s game is an everyday challenge to not just the footballers, but to administrators across the country to redouble efforts at improving the standard of women’s football” For us at the Lagos State Football Association, 2024 will be a further credence to our commitment”. Congratulations to the new crowned African Players of the Year, Oki concluded.
