The 2023 edition of the Nigeria Armwrestling Open Championship has been scheduled to hold in Lagos on June 11.
The event which has been slated for the Captains Bar, Ilupeju, will be used to select Nigeria’s representatives at the 6th African Armwrestling Championship, Accra, Ghana from June 21 to 24th at the Accra Township Stadium.
According to the president of the Nigeria Armwrestling Federation, Engineer Samuel Jackson, the top winners at the Nigeria Open, will be selected to represent the country at the African Championship, later in June in Ghana.
Jackson, noted that, the African Championship in Accra, Ghana will serve as the qualifiers for the World Combat Games in Saudi Arabi in October 2023 and also as the qualification tournament for the Armwrestling event of the African Games in Accra, Ghana in March, 2024.
The Nigerian president disclosed that in the invitation sent to the Nigerian federation, and signed by the AFA Secretary General, Julien Bounmsong, the African Armwrestling Federation, noted that, Nigeria must confirm participation at the African event by May 21, with list of names of the country’s representatives and their individual international passport numbers.
Jackson, confirmed that, all the top Nigerian Armwrestlers male and female have been invited for the June 11 Open Championship in Lagos.
The first edition of the African Armwrestling Championship was held in Cairo, Egypt. The second edition took place in Lagos. Third edition of the Championship was in Accra, Ghana, while the fourth edition was held in Dakar, Senegal.
The 11th edition of the African Championship took place in Lagos last year in Lagos was won by Nigeria, while the twelveth edition have been slated to hold in Accra, Ghana from June 21 to 24, 2023.
