A Lagos based football enthusiast, Dr Kolapo Kolade has called on soccer loving Nigerians to continue supporting Super Eagles in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON taking place in Cote’d Ivoire.
Nigeria managed to beat Guinea Bissau on Monday 1-0 in the last group stage to book a place in the round of 16.
The Eagles performance against Guinea Bissau generated different arguments among the football fans as some football fans said the Eagles performance was below expections considering their opponents, while others felt that their performance is still above average.
Kolade who doubles as medical practitioner told our correspondent that Eagles had done well in their three matches by qualifying for the next stage of the tournament and admonished the football fans to exercise patience with the three time Africa champions.
“Of course Nigerian fans want better performance from Super Eagles but we should not forget that the tournament itself is full of surprises. We saw what happened in Ghana, Egypt, Cameroon,Algeria, Tunisia matches and even the hosts. This is to tell you that the favourites are still struggling in the tournament.
“Our players know the importance of this tournament and they also want to live up to expectations. Now that they are in round of 16,we still need to support them through our prayers to achieve their target in the tournament,”he said.
Commenting on why Eagles did not play as fans expected,Kolade who is a NPFL match commissioner noted that some new players were tested against Guinea Bissau game saying that their next match would be better and Nigerians should expect improved Eagles in the round of 16.
