
A fourteen-year-old Student of Ireti Senior Grammar School,Ikoyi, Lagos, Iheanyichukwu Michael, emerged the champion of 7th edition of the Pwc Chess4Change GrandSlam tournament.
The Senior Secondary School pupil stole the show with 5.5 to coast home the highest prizes of the Championship.
18 Secondary Schools which cut across the Education Districts IV, participated in the just concluded edition of the chess fiesta designed to promote the Students critical thinking.
The event took place at Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Michael, while thanking the team behind his success, highlighted that he trained very hard to emerged as the champion.
” I trained really hard.I really worked for it. If you go to my school and ask for Micheal, they only know me as the guy that loves Chess”.
” I want to improve on my Chess skills after my Secondary School education and l am also looking for forward to the next competitions.
International Master, Isaac Okeke stated that the Chess4Change GrandSlam is a wonderful tournament.
He said Chess improves the growth and academic capabilities of students.He also advised students to keep playing in the tournament that would sharpen their skills in the game.
Recall that Ramon Idowu from Lagos City Senior College,Sabo Yaba, emerged as the champion of the PWC Chess4Change 2021 Grand Slam Tournament.
